How to Preserve a Poster

Today, concert and celebrity posters are a highly collectible item among fans dealers. If they are protected and taken care of properly, they will be that much more valuable. There are several ways to preserve a poster depending on if it will be stored away or put on display.

Preserving through Storage. When storing a poster, there are two options: one can store them flat or rolled up. Personally I prefer them rolled up as they are easier to transport and take up less space. To store a poster safely, one must use acid free sleeves. When storing a poster or paper document of any type, it is always important that the container be acid free. If it is not, it will end up damaging the paper. Sleeves and tubes also protect from dust, moisture and bugs.

Preserving through framing. If one wants to keep their poster on display, framing it is the best option. Often people use tape or sticky tack to mount a poster on the wall. These can damage both the poster and the wall causing the poster to lose its collectible value. Framing allows for a poster to be enjoyed and protected at the same time. When having this done make sure that the glass or plexi is UV-resistant, this will protect it from light. Also, that the materials are all acid free.

If you plan on keeping the poster framed for a long period of time, the use of spacers between the glass and poster should be used. Often when framed for a long period of time, moisture can get caught underneath the glass causing damage to the poster.

Whether you want store a poster away or keep it on display for all to see, there is a way to safely store your poster so that it will appreciate in value.
